To distinguish Pacific cultures and island groups, Oceania traditionally divided is into Micronesia meaning small islands, Melanesia meaning black islands, e.g. New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji and Polynesia meaning many islands, e.g. Hawaii, Tahiti and Easter Island.
