In the tropical forest of Utukua, Punaei Valley on Hiva Oa, Marquesas, are a remains of what was probably an important local community. The site is long forgotten, covered with vegetation. Only small remains of the stone platforms can be found. One unusual statue stands guarding the place. It is one meter tall engraved stele commonly known as the “smiling tiki”.
