The Guatemalan Highlands is a mountainous area in the south of Guatemala. It is characterized by deep valleys surrounded by steep slopes. There are also numerous volcanoes and the high-mountain Lake Atitlán. Traveling in this area is difficult and slow. This is due not only to the poor road conditions, but also requires overcoming huge differences in elevation. For example, we covered the distance of 100 km / 60 miles between Cuevas De Candelaria and Semuc Champey in 5 and ½ hours.
