Szydłowiec Castle is a typical aristocratic residence in Poland. The Renaissance building stands on an artificial island. Starting from the 15th century, the castle was erected and extended by several generations of the Szydłowiecki family, and later the Radziwiłł familiy. The castle was inhabited until the 1840s. During World War II, Germans converted the castle into a ghetto for the local Jewish population.
