Monks Monastery Meteora

Cliff top monasteries of Meteora (meaning suspended in air) were developed in the early Middle Ages. Accessible only by baskets lowered by ropes, these monasteries became a center of scholarship and art in Greece occupied by Ottoman Turk. For centuries, they have kept alive Greek Orthodox religion and Hellenic culture. From the 24 built monasteries 6 still operate to this day.
