Walking along the streets in any city in Malta, you quickly realize that the characteristic are colorful wooden balconies. The colors are vivid dark blue, shades of red, exotic purple and green often matching the main door of the house. On many narrow streets, they hang over the heads of passers-by. Balconies are a part of traditional architecture here, where small areas are densely packed with many townhouses. Certainly, these types of balconies are an Arabic influence. It is smart solution to expend often small and cramped spaces on the upper floors; the closed structure enlarges the room.
