Jaffa, an ancient Mediterranean port, the oldest part of what is now Tel Aviv-Yafo, associated is with mythological and biblical stories. Tel Aviv founded in 1909 as Jewish settlement--on the outskirts of mixed Arab, Jewish and Christian Jaffa--quickly grew to be Israel's largest metropolitan area. Today, Jaffa plays a role of Tel Aviv's old city.
