The 19th-century Ottoman summer pavilion in Istanbul features a grand staircase and is decorated with baroque carvings. Ihlamur Pavilion's décor reflects an Ottoman preference for Western styles, a fireplace with porcelain vases, an ornamented ceiling, crystal chandeliers and European furniture. The small palace was used by the sultans for receptions and ceremonies as well as to receive important foreign visitors.
