Danish architect Jørn Utzon was looking for a simple geometric principle for his design. His team of architects proposed a solution based on a spherical concept with arches of different lengths. This makes it possible to arrange arch segments next to each other. The final result we can admire are spherical cross-sections that are stacked on top of each other and diverge in two opposite directions.
