Skiing in British Columbia

Ski hard, rest a moment and ski harder, skiing all day long. This is Whistler, this is British Columbia. Almost unlimited ski area, big bowls, steep slopes, lots of powder, cliffs and tree skiing. All you need to worry about is finding your own way down.

Out of the Woods

In many ski resorts around world in the woods and off trail skiing or is illegal. This is either due to lack of snow, or because of concern for the natural environment. Surprisingly to me Whistler has an opposite point of view on the subject. Somewhere in the woods we found a sign that described that gladed ski trails increase food for black Bears. Sign reads, ”One of Whistler Blackcombs’s environmental initiatives is to identify and enhance habitat for Black Bears. The development of gladed ski trails increase the bio diversity of the forest. This includes the growth of huckleberry which is a key food for bears on the mountains. Costal Mountain Blacktailed Dear also benefit from glade trail development.”
