Trijata and Rahwana

A Sanskrit epic Ramayana, tells about banishment of king Rama from his kingdom and the abduction of his wife Shinta by a demon. The story has happy ending; Shinta is rescued, and Rama is restored to his throne. The show performed in the open-air theatre near the Prambanan temple (Yogyakarta, Indonesia) is in the form of traditional Javanese dance accompanied by gamelan music. It is presented through vibrant dance sequences, atypical body postures, unusual footwork, attractive hand gestures and unusual facial expressions.
