Daisen-in, one of buddist subtemples in Daitoku-ji in Kyoto is famous of its rock garden. Built in 1509 using mostly rocks and sand the garden was intended to show the Spirit of Zen. This form of expression is recognized as the three-dimensional landscape painting. |
