This is one of the largest temples in Japan. Chion-in in Kyoto is the headquarters of the Jodo school, located on the site where its founder, Honen Shoin lived and taught the doctrine of faith in Amida Buddha. The temple complex comprises the imposing San-mon, the largest temple gate in the country, standing 24 m (79 feet) tall. The Founders Hall (Miei-do) is also a massive structure. It accommodates a resplendent golden altar and worshipped image of Honen. |
