Never finished, the Boldt Castle stands on Heart Islands on Saint Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands region. Ambitious construction campaign to build a huge private house was launched in 1899. It was to be a gift for George Boldts wife, but sudden death of a cherished woman caused the construction to halt forever. A six-story Boldt Castle was modeled on 16th century European castles. The main building has massive granite walls with decorative details, more than 120 rooms, elevator and indoor swimming pool. Together with four other surrounding buildings in a similar style, this masonry structure is one of its kind.
